Strange title I know, but after my wonderful family, daffodils and chocolate are the other 2 loves of my life. Oh, and Flower Fairies but there is a limit to the length of a title!

Safe arrival of grandchild no.7

Just a very quick one. Our baby grandson Neo was born safely today at 9.43am, weighing 6lb 13oz. Can't wait to meet him for a cuddle. Well done Sarah, and congratulations to you and Ollie.

My Crafty Weekend

My best laid plans always back-fire, but I can't complain as it usually involves a visit from one of my children with a grandchild or two in tow!

I got up yesterday with the intention of starting my floral canvas by gluing the ribbon 'stalks' on, and then my youngest daughter arrived with her 2 little ones, 'as she was passing'.

I had spent the previous day gluing hundreds of mini flower buttons to the centre of my crochet flowers, so when they left I got started.

Fortunately I had tried a practise run first on something that didn't matter. It soon became evident that the glue gun and fine ribbon were not compatible. The glue stream was not fine enough, and my hand was not steady enough either. So out came the PVA glue, and a couple of paint brushes and that solved the problem. Just hope the glue will be as long-lasting.

Stalks in place , and after much indecision about where the flowers should be placed, what colour combinations looked best, I was ready for the dreaded hot glue gun again. Don't get me wrong, I secretly love it, just not the pain that is inflicted on finger-tips burnt by 380 degree molten glue. OUCH!

Oh well, here is the finished result. The jury is still out. I'm not 100% that I like it as much as the one in the picture I saw. I still have another canvas to complete, but will need to crochet more flowers before I can start that, and my daughter wants one too.

I'm also busy knitting a chunky jacket for grandchild no.7. My daughter in law has chosen a lovely French cotton aran in a shade of cafe au lait. it is nearly finished. I have chosen several different buttons for her to choose from, and I just have the hood to finish.
Here is the pattern. I think the navy looks good too.

Flowers, flowers everywhere!

As mentioned in my last post, my desk was overtaken with a garden of crochet flowers, all patiently waiting to be planted, once I had been hit by the 'inspiration stick'. With the aid of my new glue gun (oh how I love it. How did i live without this amazing piece of equipment for 60yrs? I constantly have to resist the urge to stick random things together!).

It was a Christmas present from my daughter - in- law Sarah, and with some small blank canvases given to me by my youngest daughter Linzi, for Mothers day, the creation began.

And so the random pile of flowers and leaves, gradually came to life.

Not one...

Not two...

Not three...

But four little pictures.....

They are going in the downstairs loo,
to replace some very ancient tapestries that had definitely seen better days.
Hopefully the pastel shades will match the equally ageing wallpaper.

Here they are. Picture taken in artificial light, but I'm happy with them.

Now to make some more flowers.
This time brightly coloured, summer blooms to put onto a larger canvas
in our sunny, south-facing conservatory.
